Want to be miserable, resentful, and bitter? Few people do, and yet many people are. Why? Because many people have the one primary character trait that leads to unhappiness. And you need to avoid it. Nationally syndicated talk show host Dennis Prager explains.

How many times have you heard someone say they want to make a better world? It is a noble sentiment, but very hard to achieve, right? Well, actually, it’s quite easy. All we have to do is increase just one human trait.

This trait is so powerful that it alone can make people happier without working on their happiness, and make them better – and by “better,” I mean more generous, more honest, more kind, more everything good – without a single lesson in morality. Continue reading

0274 (Blogs 0270-0275 are all about Thanksgiving) – this one is a YouTube “The Lost Secrets of Thanksgiving”

November 24, 2017

Yesterday, while celebrating Thanksgiving with one of our sons and his family — and after visiting on the phone with our son who was in Japan yesterday — our local daughter-in-law showed us a YouTube.  At my request, she emailed me the link last night.  You can watch it below:

The 9-minute YouTube is “The Lost Secrets of Thanksgiving.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peEUb107T7U

The above video is about the people we call the Pilgrims, and the Separatists that accompanied them when they set sail for Virginia from Holland, aboard the Mayflower.   The Mayflower ended up much farther north than had been planned — just off Cape Cod.  Even though they had gone so far off course, they believed that God had taken them there.  They named the area Plimoth (Plymouth).

Below is a summary of “The Lost Secrets of Thanksgiving.” Continue reading

Thanksgiving Day
November 23, 2017

One sentence from Bradford’s account of their first Thanksgiving –
after fasting and praying all day for rain – and then receiving rain after drought!
“And he [God] was pleased to give them a gracious and speedy answer,
both to their own, and the Indian’s admiration, that lived amongst them.”

In the excerpts that you will find later in this blog piece, you can read William Bradford’s account about what led up to their first thanksgiving celebration.  Bradford was governor of Plymouth Plantation for 37 years, up until his death.

[A note:  The group that left Holland were not leaving because of persecution there, but rather because of their well-founded fear that in Holland, their children would be indoctrinated away from their Christian faith.  The reason that urged them to leave all they had, and make such a dangerous journey across the ocean to a new land — was their strong desire to protect the souls of their children.

Watch this short 6-minute YouTube produced by Prager University, about the First Thanksgiving.]

The excerpts later in this blog post, are from a book called:  The Christian History of the Constitution of the United States of America published by Verna M. Hall:  Foundation for American Christian Education (FACE).  The YouTube below gives information about FACE, and it is also found on their website).

The Christian History of the Constitution of the United States of America

Many years ago, when I was home-schooling my children, someone gave me a copy of The Christian History of the Constitution of the United States of America.

For over 25 years I regularly gave programs in Colorado.  Every Thanksgiving season, I shared William Bradford’s account printed in this book, and below.

At the end of this blog (after William Bradford’s account) you can find out more about the book, about the publishers, how to purchase it, and how to purchase other books they publish.

What is unique about this book?  How is it superior to
most of the material taught in our public schools?

Not only does this book extensively cover the Christian history of our Constitution, but it has the text of original source documents.  That is far superior to what is done in almost all of our public schools (and even most private schools).  In most schools (pre-school through 12th, and colleges and universities) students only read or are told “reports” and “interpretations” of history — and sadly, the history is usually given from the viewpoint of people who hate our country and its Christian foundations. What’s the Truth About the First Thanksgiving?

Should Americans celebrate Thanksgiving as a day of gratitude? Or should they mourn it as a day of guilt? Michael Medved, author of The American Miracle, shares the fascinating story of the first Thanksgiving.

Food, football, and…oppression. That’s what Thanksgiving has come to mean to many Americans.

Back in 2007, Seattle public school officials made national news by describing the holiday as a “time of mourning” and a “bitter reminder of 500 years of betrayal.”

This new narrative describes the Pilgrims as arrogant oppressors who fled persecution only to become persecutors themselves, depriving Native Americans of their land and their lives.

But this is wrong on every count.

First of all, the Pilgrims didn’t cross the ocean to flee persecution—or even England. They’d been living for over a decade in Holland, Europe’s most tolerant nation, and a haven for religious dissenters. Free from interference by the Church of England, they feared seduction—not persecution, worrying that their children would be corrupted by the materialistic Dutch culture.

0271_An abbreviated abstract of history of Thanksgiving in America_and the 1789 Proclamation signed by Pres. George Washington, setting aside Thurs. Nov. 26 as “A Day of Publick Thanksgiving and Prayer”

Abstract of the First Thanksgiving 1789_Thanksgiving Proclamation by Pres. George Washington

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
We have much to thank God for.

Below you can read an abbreviated version of an abstract concerning the observance of Thanksgiving.  [Source for most of the version is:  https://www.varsitytutors.com/earlyamerica/firsts/first-thanksgiving-observance ]

The observance of Thanksgiving in America, began with the colonists of Plymouth Plantation in the fall of 1621.  In 1671  there was a proclamation in Massachusetts to observe Thanksgiving.  The observance of a day of Thanksgiving spread through the colonies, and during the 1700’s, Thanksgiving Day was observed as a day of fasting and praying.

In 1789 President George Washington made the first national proclamation setting aside one specific day in 1789 (Thursday, November 16) as “A Day of Publick Thanksgiving Prayer.”

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation, making the fourth Tuesday of November a national holiday.  It was the first time Thanksgiving became an annual national holiday.

Then in 1939 President Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to move Thanksgiving a week earlier to benefit businesses, but was pressured into keeping it in the fourth week of November — so it was moved in 1941 to the fourth Thursday each November, as it is today.

Words from Jordan Henry’s introduction to Phyllis Schlafly’s 2002 article:

” As Phyllis Schlafly put it, ‘George Washington was history’s indispensable man. It’s no exaggeration to say that, without his leadership, we would not have a United States of America.’  He even gave us the gift of a Thanksgiving holiday by issuing a proclamation in 1789 making the last Thursday in November ‘a day of public thanksgiving and prayer’ on which Americans should thank Almighty God for granting ‘an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.’”

[Note:   “Abraham Lincoln . . .  supported legislation making it a national holiday in 1863. America was in the middle of its bloody Civil War at the time and Lincoln hoped the new holiday would unify the bitterly divided country. The holiday was finally a success and Thanksgiving has continued ever since.”    from:  http://historyofmassachusetts.org/the-first-thanksgiving/  ]

Cheap AP college credit — but at what price? — ignorance of
America’s marvelous heritage.

In our public schools (K-12) and universities, students are taught that the only important thing to know about George Washington is that “he owned slaves.”  They don’t learn ANYTHING about him, his exceptional leadership before and during the Revolutionary War, his strong Christian faith, his time as first President of the United States, the love and admiration that he earned, or the great example he was throughout his life.

AP US History adds to this ignorance of American History

To learn about AP (Advanced Placement) U.S. History in public schools, see Blogs 0013, 0015, 0061, 0069, 0235 .  Advanced Placement (AP) U.S. History is an anti-American curriculum.  AP is highly rated in public school circles, and coveted by parents, who get cheap college credit for their children who pass AP courses.  Through AP US History, students are dishonestly taught to hate America.

“The Premier American Hero — George Washington.”

May 2002:
THE MAN WHO MADE OUR ‘UNIQUE AMERICAN HOLIDAY.’
By Jordan T. Henry, Director of Research

It goes without saying that we Americans have a lot to be thankful for. For starters, we live in the greatest nation on the planet. Let’s also not forget that we enjoy the freedom and liberty secured in our unprecedented United States Constitution. In a few short days, we can also be thankful for a time to spend with family and loved ones reflecting on God’s bounty in our lives. Each of these blessings should remind us of one man to whom every American owes a debt of gratitude. That man, who is being systematically removed from the public sphere, was passionately defended in the May 2002 Phyllis Schlafly Report. His name is George Washington. Continue reading

0269_ Dept of Ed Sec Betsy DeVos to speak at Jeb Bush’s FEE summit_ link to Karen Bracken’s 2013 video and transcript: education Trojan Horse

November 14, 2017

Betsy DeVos, US Secretary of the Department of Education, will be guest speaker at Jeb Bush’s upcoming summit for his Foundation for Excellence in Education (FEE).  It is an organization that was started in 2007.  It has been financially supported by DeVos and her husband for most years since its beginnings — and she has been on its board of directors.

Before he ran for President, Jeb got out of the Foundation for Excellence in Education (FEE) (His father got out of the Council of Foreign Relations when he was running for President).  Jeb is back directing FEE.  Read:  Jeb Bush returns to the Foundation for Excellence in Education – May 24, 2016.

Notice the people are who are sponsoring the FEE event.  Most of them are what some people would call globalists — and they have consistently been heavy supporters of Common Core, FEE, and the federal and international control of education.

The College Board is also a supporter of the event.  David Coleman, president of the College Board, is a main architect of Common Core.  See Blog 0074 which has a YouTube of “Common Core:  Subversive Threat to Education.  Watch Karen Bracken’s video and read a transcript of of it.  The presentation tells about Coleman’s role in the College Board, AP, SAT, ACT, Common Core.  Watching the video (or reading the transcript) you can learn not only about Coleman, but also about other sponsors of this FEE event.

Bill in Congress to further eliminate privacy of everyone.

A bill in Congress, is attempting nationally take away the privacy of all of us — in the name of transparency.  Do not be fooled by glowing reports from the Dept. of Education (Betsy DeVos).  She has a long history of supporting financially, and supporting by being on the board of a national group that has always supported Common Core.  (Example: Jeb Bush’s FEE – Foundation for Excellence in Education — which has always been aligned with nationalizing education through Common Core).

See other blogs on this site that talk about Betsy DeVos’ actual words and her actual actions connected with education. Though many of her words sound good, not all of them do.  Find those blogs by typing in her name after you click the “spy glass” at the top of this page.

0267_What’s the Truth About the First Thanksgiving_ Medved _PragerU YouTube Video and Transcript

Donna Jack
November 13, 2017

Michael Medved has recorded a superb collection
of audio recordings about American History.

Below is the latest in the series of PragerU short educational videos.  This one is of Michael Medved talking about the First Thanksgiving.   You can link the YouTube video here as well.

https://www.prageru.com/videos/whats-truth-about-first-thanksgiving

There are many good resources for learning about the Pilgrims’ “first Thanksgiving.”

Sad to day, there are even more resources to find lies about the founding of our country.  Advanced Placement (AP) American History is one of those dishonest resources that push ugly lies about our founding.  AP courses in general, are painted as the very best schools have to offer (plus they provide cheap college credit, an enticement for parents).

Text of an email that arrived today from Prager University:

“Food, football, and…oppression. That’s what Thanksgiving has come to mean for many Americans. Why? Because countless schools tell students that the Pilgrims fled persecution only to become persecutors themselves by depriving Native Americans of their land and their lives. Is that really what happened? Were previous generations of Americans sold a romanticized version of the Pilgrim story? In this week’s video, nationally syndicated radio host Michael Medved tells the truth about the first Thanksgiving.
