0284_Merry Christmas to all — and I hope people who are Jewish had a blessed Chanukkah – from Donna Jack

Donna Jack
December 23, 2017

Today I was at a Christmas brunch, and our speaker was a Jewish lady.  She shared a lovely talk about the spirit of Christmas, and then, at the request of one of the people at the luncheon, she gave us an excellent detailed history of Chanukkah.

After the Christmas season, I would like to post some of that history — and share some history of Christmas.

Now it is time for family and friends.

Merry Christmas to everyone (since the words “Merry Christmas” are words that mean: “Have a wonderful Christmas season!”).  And to my Jewish friends, and to all Jewish people, I also hope you had a Blessed and Happy Chanukkah.

0283_The College Board’s AP (Advanced Placement) European History — Another Politicized Curriculum Revision Means College Board Needs Competitors_Jane Robbins/Emmett McGroarty

Donna Jack
December 19, 2017

The AP (Advanced Placement) is continuing on its radical leftest road.  See other blogs on this site to read about what they did with AP US History a few years ago.

Below is an article about what they are now doing with AP European History.

People need to resist the carrot of “cheap college class credits earned in High School.”  By selfishly wanting to pay less for college credit, they are choosing to subject their own children to brain washing in Marxist/progressive theory, and supporting the dumbing down and the radicalization of their own children.

“Another Politicized Curriculum Revision Means College Board Needs Competitors”
By Jane Robbins, Emmett McGroarty – American Principles Project

  http://thefederalist.com/2017/12/19/another-politicized-curriculum-revision-means-college-board-needs-competitors/

History repeats itself. The College Board, which controls much of the curriculum in American high schools through Advanced Placement (AP) courses that can earn college credit, continues its game of leaning as far left as it can before criticism from scholars and parents pulls it back from the brink.

In our last episode, the College Board responded to the uproar over its leftist revised AP U.S. History (APUSH) framework by issuing a new framework that incorporated some of the critiques but retained much of the problematic structure. Now it’s doing the same with AP European History. Continue reading

0282_Why keep supporting public education? — COMMON CORE INFLUENCE REMAINS STRONG – BY JENNI WHITE — HEARTLAND INSTITUTE — 12.16.17

Donna Jack
December 19, 2017

Why keep supporting public education?  People controlling content of curriculum continue to totally ignore parents, teachers, and everyone who says Common Core and much that has been leading up to it, is destroying lives.

Public Education (which influences much of private and religious education) keeps being dumbed down.

Read Jenni White’s article below, which points out that those behind Common Core say they are complying with wishes of parents, etc., but they never deviate from their destructive course.  They just give lip service.

COMMON CORE INFLUENCE REMAINS STRONG DESPITE POLITICAL, PARENTAL PUSHBACK

DECEMBER 16, 2017 — By Jenni White

CCSS is a set of national standards dictating what students should know at the end of each grade level.

“Of the states that opted in after the standards were introduced in 2010—45 plus the District of Columbia—only eight have moved to repeal the standards, largely due to political pressure from those who saw Common Core as infringing on local control, according to Abt Associates, a research and consulting firm,” AP reported in September 2017.

Though 29 of the original 46 adopter states have abandoned or revised the Common Core State Standards in response to political and parental pushback, the influence remains. From the first attempt to repeal and replace CCSS by Indiana in 2014 to the most recent attempt in New York, activists and analysts describe the replacement standards as little more than a simple rebrand of Common Core, allegations supported by research published earlier this year. 0281_School Reformers fail again _ 12-15-17 National Review article: When school-discipline “reform” makes schools less safe— Common Cores causes decline

Donna Jack
December 18, 2017

It is an old, old story.  Education reformers in Education promise the moon, and keep hampering teachers from doing their jobs of educating our children — as the education in our country continues to lag further behind other countries in the world.

The same is true when these same education reformers insist on changing things to make schools safer.  They make schools more unsafe.

National Review   When School-Discipline ‘Reform’ Makes Schools Less Safe
by Frederick M. Hess & Max C. Eden December 15, 2017 4:00 AM

 http://www.nationalreview.com/article/454675/progressive-school-discipline-reform-hurting-students-parents

Progressive education experts don’t seem to care that the policies they advocate are hurting the students who need the most help... Such tales are painfully familiar to those who track the world of school reform. There’s a rhythm to it: Progressive reformers have an idea that they think should work; the idea doesn’t work; reformers claim to see hints of promise and explain that the problem is one merely of “implementation”. . . and then the cycle repeats. Meanwhile, teachers and parents are left to pick up the pieces…  Continue reading

0280_Lily Tang Williams talks about Communism_ she grew up in China_ YouTube by Stossel_ powerful anti-communist, anti-socialist, anti-tyranny message

December 6, 2017

I am including this video, not as an endorsement for the Libertarian party (I believe we need to stick within our 2-party system in order to get anything good done.

President Trump is a perfect example.  He is not a political party person, but an American.  He ran on principles closer to the Republican party.   But notice how he is viciously attacked both by Democrats, and by much of the Republican party.  He doesn’t waiver!

I am including the video below for it’s powerful anti-communist, anti-socialist, anti-tyranny message.  Let me make it clear, this is NOT an endorsement of the Libertarian party.

The following YouTube talks of 100 years of Communism.  It is not a pretty picture.

My friend Lily Tang Williams speaks in this video.  When she was a student, she escaped from China to come to this country.  You can watch her as she speaks about China, her love for the U.S.A., and her determination to stand up for our freedom here.

Conifer Kiwanis Club sponsors the Reading Program

Kiwanis Club of Conifer, Colorado sponsors a local reading program.  Near the end of the school year they have an event of fun, acknowledgements, and awards.

Through this program, Conifer Kiwanis has contributed over $10,000 to the reading programs in local elementary schools.  But the benefits to the children can’t be measured in those dollars.  Children are inspired to read!Boy who advanced 5 levels with other children IMG_4857

The picture on the right was taken at the annual end-of-school-year  event held in 2016.  It was an event honoring 3rd graders who participated in the Kiwanis reading program.  Friends, family, teachers, principals, and others representing the schools attended.  See Blog 0188.

Little girl with Dr. Wheeler IMG_4831

Dr. Wheeler is pictured to the left, with a student,  after signing the book he gave her.  He personally contributes one of his books to each 3rd grader in the reading program.  This student, like all the 3rd graders, chose her book from a list of books  Dr. Wheeler’s gave to each child.  She proudly holds up her new book, and a certificate.

One special gift is awarded to a 3rd grader whose name is drawn from all the names of the 3rd grade children in the program, who are present.  Last year Dr. Wheeler outdid himself, and gave to a happy young girl whose name was drawn, his entire 10-volume collection of animal stories.  It ended up a great inspiration to her, which has increased her love for reading!

Podcast of AM91 Dec. 6, 2017 interview with Dr. Wheeler.

Tomorrow author Dr. Joe Wheeler will begin 6 days of signing his books at King Soopers, in Conifer, Colorado.  His website is:    www.joewheelerbooks.com    At the end of this blog, read about the three books he has published this year.

Twenty-six years ago, Dr. James Dobson interviewed Dr. Wheeler on his national “Focus on the Family” radio broadcast — the interview was about Dr. Wheeler’s book Christmas in My Heart. The response was so overwhelming, that Dr. Wheeler decided to do another — and has done one each year ever since then.  This year is book #26 in the series of Christmas in My Heart Christmas stories.

A large number of Dr. Wheeler’s 98 published books will be set up on display at Conifer King Soopers tomorrow (December 7) and each scheduled day this month.  He will sign any book that you purchase, writing an individual comment designed specifically for each of his 98 books.  If you wish, he will also designate who the book is to go to, and who it is from.
