0249_Betsy DeVos was right to chose to Scrap Obama Campus Sex Policy That Weaponized Govt. to Work Against Students_ By Dr. Susan Berry_Sept. 9, 2017

Last week Dept. of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was right
to stand against Obama’s Campus Sex Policy

Betsy Devos, Secretary of Education in the U.S. Department of Education, decided last week week, to stand up against kangaroo trials on campuses.  [Verdicts that are not impartial justice — in these cases, verdicts that are decided against young or older men, in advance.]

It is right that Betsy DeVos is standing up for those who have been accused, prosecuted and punished without a trial — those who have not been given a chance to present a case in their defense.

In this country we are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty — but too frequently in recent history, the supposition of innocence until proven guilty has been reversed:  people are fmore commonoly considered guilty until proven innocent; and even when they are proven innocent, they must still suffer repercussions of having been treated as guilty when they were innocent.

There were two letters by President Obama (in 2010 and 2011) that expanded qualifications that would label a person guilty — qualifications that went far beyond any good reasoning.

But Betsy DeVos continues to think ESSA(Every Student Succeeds Act)
and Common Core are good.

I hope Betsy DeVos also comes to understand that both ESSA and Common Core are wrong, and violate rights of individuals and states to determine education of children.   Control of edeucation is supposed ot be a local and state issue.

0247_This website had its 2nd birthday last month_ Type #1 and Type #2 ed._ Tour of this site_from Donna Jack

Sept. 04, 2017

Two years, one month, and one week ago, on July 28, 2015, I posted my first blog on this website.

A listing of all the posts can be found in the Table of Contents — each entry in the Table of Contents has a link to the corresponding blog post.

The Home Page shows what is wrong with education —
and
the most critical thing to understand
in order to reverse the decline in education today – and to save our nation.

How do we fix the rapid decline in the education of too many people who do not graduate, and too many who do graduate from High Schools, Colleges and Universities?

It is not the condition of the buildings and other facilities — it is not the talent and good intentions and dedication of highly trained and competent teachers, administrators, counselors, teacher librarians, and all the support staff — it is not the freedom to choose the school a child attends (especially if all schools have Type #2 education) — it is not the amount of interest of the parents, or of the students — it is not computerizing all education and gathering more and more data on children, families, teachers, etc. — it is not simply emphasis on certain subjects like sports, music, art, science, technology, mathematics, language arts, reading, writing — it is not focus on becoming a global citizen — it is not in forcing all students to accept everything that students do and believe (unless they are politically incorrect).  Standardizing all attitudes, values, beliefs and behaviors is not the answer, either — and training children to want to change their sexual identity will not improve education standards.

The thing that really matters is THE TYPE OF EDUCATION BEING TAUGHT IN THE CURRICULUM — THE CONTENT.  Type #2 education is taking over our country — to the detriment of everyone.  We need a shift back to Type #1.

I found this treasure this evening, when searching through old emails for Alice Linahan’s webcasts.  Alice Linahan’s facebook:  https://twitter.com/alicelinahan?lang=en

Donna Garner is on Alice’s webcast right now (August 16, 2017).

The following document is well worth copying, from the pdf, or from the online link.  It is important historical information for your files on Common Core.  Donna Garner originally sent it out in 2015 — 35 pages of links to podcasts, videos, articles, YouTubes, commentaries, etc., over a four-year period.  I can’t wait to dig into them myself.  Many of then will be resources I have already studied – both new and review are important.

conversion of public schools from places of learning into therapeutic institutions for diagnosing and treating perceived social-emotional problems.

DESSA is there to rate students on their behaviors but then to offer intervention to improve their scores. Social awareness is one of the key competencies to ensure the students are aware and accepting of race and diversity.”

“too many public schools no longer focus on imparting academic knowledge. Rather, egged on by the federal government and private players, they consider children to be patients in need of treatment to dislodge personality characteristics that don’t match the government’s preferred profile.”

“Mental Health Assessments or Standardized Testing? Lines Are Blurring.” – by Emmett McGroarty

This piece was co-authored by Jane Robbins, an attorney and senior fellow at the American Principles Project.

In The Wall Street Journal recently, New Hampshire physician Dr. Aida Cerundolo blew the whistle on faux mental-health assessment of public-school students in the Granite State. Some K-8 students are being subjected to blanket screening by untrained, unlicensed personnel, with serious questions about use or protection of the resulting records. And parents not only haven’t consented to this process, they haven’t even been told it’s happening. Continue reading

When the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was enacted in 2015 to replace the hated No Child Left Behind law, the new legislation’s supporters trumpeted that, henceforth, control over education would reside with the states.

“With this bill,” Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) promised, “we are sending power back to the people.”

0221_Part 8 HUD/AFFH–June 27, 2017_letter to County Commissioners before their vote

Donna Jack
June 28, 2017

This is a letter to the Jeffco County Commissioners June 27, 2017 — given them yesterday, before I testified:

Commissioners – I appreciate the opportunity to speak.

Commissioner Szabo asked me to sort through colliding opinions about whether or not to accept HOME and CDBG money.

People on both sides are convinced they are looking out for people in this county – both sides are aware of a shortage of housing for seniors, low income working people, etc.

After weeks of interviews and study, I recommend voting against accepting HOME and CDBG money.

The people I talked with in our county government are working well over 8-hour days, to bring people out of poverty.  They are providing personal counseling, and schooling to train people to become literate and competent, so they can qualify for better jobs.  Some is financed with the help of HUD money.

___________________

People who don’t want us to accept the funding, are also working tirelessly.  They research and inform, and find money to replace HOME and CDBG money. They believe that the federal government should get out of the housing business, so we can have a voice in where and how we live.

The June 7, 2017 article by Jane Robbins – Belittling Parents and Ignoring Evidence Won’t Work – reveals much about the push behind Common Core and the refusal to engage in or be honest about what Common Core really is.

Why ‘Competency-Based Education’ Will Deepen America’s Education Crisis

Do we really want a society in which every action a child takes from K-12 is incorporated into an economic planning algorithm that may control the rest of his life?
Jane Robbins

By

Despite his failure at presidential politics, Jeb Bush emerged from the recent campaign with perhaps unparalleled influence on K-12 education. Minions with ties to his Florida-based, Bill Gates-funded Foundation for Excellence in Education (FEE) are populating the U.S. Department of Education (USED) under Secretary Betsy DeVos, and FEE leverages Bush’s education legacy to push its preferred policies in multiple states. One of those policies is competency-based education (CBE).

Background information to supplement the next blog – Blog 0206

On May 6, 2017, Donna Garner distributed an article by Dr. Susan Berry, which is also the subject of the next blog (blog 0206).   Donna Garner is an invaluable resource.  You can email her, asking her to place your email on her distribution list — Wgarner1@hot.rr.com.

If you don’t know much about Common Core, you can learn a lot from Dr. Berry’s article and the video she linked within the article.  In the video, Jason Zimba admits Common Core does not prepare students for more than, at best, a non-selective junior college.  Jason was a lead writer of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

To learn about those people and organizations pushing Common Core,
the History and goals of Common Core – and its status

Go to Links to blogs, that can be found listed at the end of this article.  They give some detailed background, history and goals of Common Core.  They are good for beginners, as well as for those of us who have studied Common Core for years.  They can be a refresher and can offer new information.
