Even though it remains a national holiday, many cities no longer celebrate Columbus Day. They celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day instead. What’s behind the switch? Contrary to what you might think, it’s not about paying homage to America’s original inhabitants. Steven Crowder, host of Louder with Crowder, explains.

0303_WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING? (SEL) – BY J. R. WILSON (2/7/18) — possible federal ESSA funds for SEL

Donna Jack
February 11, 2018

A quotation from the article “What is so great about social-emotional learning” by J. R. Wilson (later in this blog piece):

Which comes first, feeling good about yourself so you can
accomplish something worthwhile,
or accomplishing something worthwhile
so you have something to feel good about?

Search online, and on the Table of Contents page of this site, for other information about SEL (Social Emotional Learning).  Social emotional learning (SEL) has been taking place in schools for decades, but SEL is now specifically named in the schools, and is touted as what education should be all about.

ESSA (federal education program) provides funding for SEL.  That is one result of ESSA being nationally implemented.  No, we have not gotten rid of Common Core and federal control of education.  You can find the following information online:

Funding for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in
ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act_Dec. 10, 2015)

http://www.ascd.org/ASCD/pdf/siteASCD/policy/ESSA-Resources_SEL-Funding.pdf
The list contains the specific programs (title and section number) for which ESSA funds may, potentially, be spent to support social-emotional learning (SEL) activities.

For those programs in existence under No Child Left Behind (NCLB), funding levels are provided for FY 2016.
ESSA-Resources_SEL-Funding_downloaded June 11, 2018 w link

Also search this site for “ESSA”(Every Student Succeed Act) – the federal legislation that cemented Common Core into federal law.  Note:  people in Congress and the U.S. Department of Education deny what ESSA did — and instead they parrot words claiming ESSA eliminated Common Core — claiming that education is now decided on a local level.  That is not what happened.  People too often parrot what they are told, without finding out for themselves.  Search this site for “Betsy DeVos.”

Understanding what SEL actually is, will enlighten you about:
1) a main cause of the dumbing down of American education;
2)  the data-gathering on identified students and everyone that touches their lives;
3)  the collecting of personal data, and storing it with personal identifiers — then distributing that data at will;
4) and the mind and behavior control that is actively taking place in schools across the country.  [This is all Type #2 education, rather than Type #1 education – see Home Page of this site]

0289_ Jan 9, 2018_ Should Americans Accept the College Board’s Deformed History of Europe?–by Peter W. Wood–The Federalist_Links to related blog pieces on this site

Donna Jack
January 11, 2018

In 2013 the Advanced Placement presented a radical revision of the Framework of AP US History (APUSH).  After an outcry across the country, they claimed to have fixed the problems.  Actually they never changed anything, except some insignificant details, in the Framework.  The same tests would have to be given, and the books and resources were not changed.

At the time, Jefferson County (Colorado) School Board Member Julie Williams was treated like an idiot and censor, when she pointed out the truth about the new APUSH Framework and the accompanying course.  She wanted a citizen committee (not made up of people who had a vested interest in the school district) – to review the curriculum and report to the School Board.   Hysteria broke out, and the paid agitators began screaming “censor.”

Just like with the APUSH, the AP European History (APEH) is: “cultural Marxism, identity politics, and history as the unfolding of progressive ideals.”  — quote from the end of this article.

Find at the end of this blog links to other blog pieces about this issue.

In 2013 – 2015, the Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH) Framework and course were in the spotlight – The current efforts to change AP European History are a replay of the APUSH changes that were made in 2015.

“Should Americans Accept The College Board’s Deformed History of Europe?”
By Peter W. Wood, President of National Association of Scholars (NAS)
http://thefederalist.com/2018/01/09/americans-make-peace-college-boards-deformed-history-europe/

The American Enterprise Institute’s Frederick Hess and Grant Addison writing at National Review Online give the National Association of Scholars (NAS) credit for pointing out flaws in the College Board’s Advanced Placement European History (APEH) framework. But Hess and Addison are concerned that, after the College Board responded to our critique by making changes, NAS has continued to find significant fault with APEH.

This is familiar territory. A few years ago, NAS drew national attention to flaws in the College Board’s premiere AP framework, the one for U.S. history (APUSH). That framework had stood untouched for decades until the College Board issued a radical revision 2013. The College Board brushed off our criticisms for six months, but as pressure mounted decided in early 2015 that APUSH could stand some improvement. Continue reading

0262_Jeffco Supt Glass pushing bad teacher resources and curriculum_ “Trump Era Chaos stirred up the hatred that already existed” (editorial by Roberta Sutton)_Blogs on corrupted AP US History_Link to Prager U video about SPLC

October 22, 2017

From Roberta’s letter:  “All of this is not BECAUSE Trump was elected, but his election has REVEALED what already existed.  The hatred and anti-Americanism was already there, . . . ”

The hateful supplemental material (Educator Resources) — recently recommended by Superintendent Jason Glass, for K-12 teachers in Jefferson County (Colorado) Public Schools —  is only an expansion of what public school children have been fed for years (this includes the teaching of AP U.S. History in recent years).

At the end of this blog post, is   1)  how to write and send letters to the editor; and 2) other blogs on this site, that talk about the superintendent’s new controversial resource list and curriculumNote:  The School Board of Education is supposed to decide on curriculum to be used in the classes — not the superintendent3)  list of blogs on this site about the AP U.S. History mess.

Trump Era Chaos”
Letter by Roberta Sutton
_____________________________________________________

We’ve all noticed what chaos has emerged since Donald Trump’s election.

Right away there was a march of women against Trump who were wearing “Vagina Hats.”  There has been the surfacing of Antifa with their masked assailants, and their destruction and mayhem in Berkeley.  The NFL players have complaints about our police, and because of that, they  refuse to honor our nation and its flag and anthem.  All of them “attack” the President.

All of this is not BECAUSE Trump was elected, but his election has REVEALED what already existed.  The hatred and anti-Americanism was already there, but it was stirred up and brought to the fore because someone with a different belief than theirs was in charge—and Trump was going to be leading the nation in a different direction—one they didn’t agree with.  “Bill Bennett Touts Trump Has More Conservative Cabinet Than Reagan”
By Dr. Susan Berry

 http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/10/13/bill-bennett-touts-trump-conservative-cabinet-reagan/

Dr. Bill Bennett, secretary of education under President Ronald Reagan, told attendees at the Values Voter Summit Friday that President Donald Trump’s Cabinet is a “more conservative cabinet” than Reagan’s Cabinet was.

Bennett – now a radio host and author – specifically named current Education Secretary Betsy DeVos “my friend … who is fighting to empower parents,” as an example of conservatism, and defended her signature policy of school choice.

However, both Bennett and DeVos have come under fire from many conservative parents throughout America for their support – mentioned or otherwise – for the Common Core standards. The movement to eradicate the federally funded and supported Common Core has been led by one of the most significant “populist” grassroots efforts in decades.

As Breitbart News reported in 2014, Bennett drew the ire of anti-Common Core parents throughout the country after penning an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that made a “conservative case for Common Core.”

In his column, Bennett reiterated all the “talking points” of the pro-Common Core education establishment. His remarks – especially from one who served in Reagan’s Cabinet under a president who had desired to eliminate the U.S. Education Department (USED) – led to an uproar. Ultimately, Bennett admitted that public relations, lobbying, and business consulting firm DCI Group had paid him to write the column. Continue reading

ELID may have been stopped, but…

The documentation on this site, related to the proposed ELID is important, even though supposedly the proposed ELID is not moving forward.  These blogs will give you a heads-up, so you can see the original direction of this ELID  (Evergreen Local Improvement District), and work to head off whatever it morphs into.

Listed are previous blog posts on this site so far about the ELID issue – including a YouTube of Dean Dalvit presenting his proposal at the Evergreen Lake House.  The blogs on this subject so far:  0234, 0236, 0238, and 0239 (this blog piece).  Titles and links to these blog pieces are at the end of this blog.

Beginning of report on August 1, 2017 Jeffco County Commissioner’s
Staff Briefings

After the conclusion of the 8:00 public testimony on the first floor of the Jefferson County County Building, people moved to the 5th floor conference room for staff briefings for the County Commissioners.

The staff presentation was scheduled to end at 10:45.  It was over well before 9:45, when I arrived. I stayed to talk with people who attended, and below is a report.

Unexpected offer to testify on any of the four agenda items,
to those who were present

Near the end of the public testimony, Commissioner Libby Szabo asked if there were any more people who wanted to testify – and welcomed Dee Oltmans and DeDe Wagner to speak. That was a surprise for them.

Even though Dee Oltmans and DeDe Wagner were not expecting to be able to testify, they were happy to take the opportunity to speak up against the proposed LID. Continue reading

PROPOSED Evergreen Local Improvement District
Facts and Action Suggestions

FACTS

What it is not:  Connected in anyway to “Affordable Housing” AFFH, Federal Grant Money — that was a separate matter being dealt with by the County Commissioners.

What it is:  Additional level of Jefferson County government in the unincorporated Evergreen area, the boundaries of which would be El Rancho on the north, south along Hwy 74 including downtown Evergreen, around the lake south along Hwy 73 to Marshdale, encompassing Evergreen Metropolitan District and West Jefferson County Metropolitan District.  (Shown on attached map.), run by a 5-7 person appointed Board by the Commissions, not elected by Evergreen residents, which would instruct Jefferson County staff (through the Board of County Commissioners), to oversee and manage the projects identified by the appointed Board.

If approved, how long will the LID last?  In perpetuity. Organizers will submit the LID application based upon perpetuity  Per Dean Dalvit, they do not want to provide for a sunset provision.

How much $$ would be generated annually from the 1% sales tax?  Approximately $1 million. Continue reading

0235_Hillsdale College 2017 Introduction to the Constitution course (free) – taught by Larry Arnn, President of Hillsdale College_ links to classes _ information about Larry Arnn, and his books_links to other blogs about false AP US History

Donna Jack
July 21, 2017/July 22, 2017 update

My husband is taking online, the Hillsdale College class “Introduction to the Constitution.”  It is free. It is one of a number of classes Hillsdale College offers free online.

In light of the gross ignorance of the Constitution in our country — and the frightening results of that ignorance that we are seeing around us — it is important that people become aware of our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence.  We need knowledge in order to be able to stand up to protect and preserve our nation.

For decades, our public schools have been omitting this knowledge from being available to students.  In fact, grossly false information about our country, our founding, and our freedom, continues to be taught throughout the schools.  Children and adults have for a long time been taught to hate America, not understanding the unique blessing it is on us and on the world.

At the end of this article, see four previous blogs on this site that deal with the lies in AP U.S.  History.

Dr. Larry Arnn – teaches “Introduction to the Constitution”

Dr. Larry Arnn is the teacher for the 11 lessons of an “Introduction to the Constitution” class.  He has been president of Hillsdale College since 2000.  He is the kind of person that you gladly listen to — because of his extensive knowledge, and his enthusiasm for whatever subject he speaks about.

In this series he serves as more of a moderator that  one giving a lecture.  He is working with freshmen and sophomores at Hillsdale College.  The information is a very good review, or foundation if you have little knowledge of the Constitution.

In the second class on the Constitution, a number of people take turns leading the sessions, using a lecture format.

You can access here the list and content of the 11 lessons in the
Hillsdale “Introduction to the Constitution” class …or link to each one of them below: Continue reading

0234_Proposed Local Improvement District (LID) to be pushed onto Evergreen, Colorado_ Dean Dalvit video June 6, 2017 at Evergreen Lake House_the Delphi Method/Technique

Donna Jack
July 17, 2017

A meeting in June, that will be considered
to have gotten “public input” and
to have shown “public support”

Not many people knew of the June 6, 2017 meeting at the Evergreen Lake House – nor did they know of its significance.  Questions were not allowed during the meeting, though people were promised that they could ask questions as soon as the formal presentation was over.  They were not told that they would be unable to ask any questions in front of other people, but would be broken up into groups after stretching their legs.

The Delphi Method or
Delphi Technique

This is the Delphi Method, a tactic I have witnessed repeatedly  in the Jefferson County Colorado public school district.  It is used at almost every one of their public forums and workshops.  No matter what the meeting, there is no real input from the public, no answering of questions, no discussion — at the most, people are “given choices” that are already on the table to pick from.  It is a tactic meant to keep people from asking any questions that are answered in public, and keep them from having any influence on public opinion and outcomes.  The outcome is “predetermined.”  No discussion is allowed for others to hear.  It is meant to muzzle people and guarantee that those in “control” can bully their own way through.

An excellent, detailed article you can read on this technique is :  “The Delphi Technique:  Let’s Stop Being Manipulated!” by Albert V. Burns.
http://www.vlrc.org/articles/110.html

“The process used to ‘facilitate’ the meeting is called the Delphi Technique. This Delphi Technique was developed by the RAND Corporation for the U.S. Department of Defense back in the 1950s. It was originally intended for use as a psychological weapon during the cold war.

“However, it was soon recognized that the steps of Delphi could be very valuable in manipulating ANY meeting toward a predetermined end.” Continue reading
