Yesterday one of my all-time heroes Phyllis Schlafly, left us, and is now in heaven. She has been a great inspiration to me almost all my adult life.
Many years ago I used to listen to her radio broadcasts, and just learned today that she has been speaking regularly on the radio ever since 1983 – and was still broadcasting up until she died.
In 1972 the “Equal Rights Amendment” (ERA) was passed in both houses of Congress, and was then sent to the states for ratification. The deadline for ratification was March 22, 1979. Phyllis mobilized conservative women and men across the country, showing them how the ERA would actually hurt housewives and families. I attended a debate at Denver University during that time. She was extraordinary in the debate, as she made her case against “the Equal Rights Amendment.” Thanks to her brilliant unceasing efforts, combined the efforts of others standing up across the country, that destructive amendment was stopped.
