[Comments from Donna Garner:  On March 13, 2018, Leslie Stahl asked Sect. of Ed. Betsy DeVos, “Why have you become, people say, the most hated Cabinet secretary?” Sect. DeVos replied that more than anything she is misunderstood. The article below shows that she is not “misunderstood” but is actually “understood” all too well.

Even though Pres. Trump ran on the platform of getting rid of Common Core, he made a bad choice in appointing Betsy DeVos as Sect. of Ed.  She, working hand-in-glove with Jeb Bush, is making sure that Common Core becomes permanent.

Now DeVos has chosen former North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue to oversee the NAEP. This test is not yet aligned with Common Core; but under Common-Core-lover Perdue, the NAEP is sure to be closely aligned with Common Core in the same manner as the SAT, pre-SAT, and AP are.

The NAEP was mandated by Congress in 1969 and compares representative samples of students’ scores in mathematics, reading, science and writing.  The NAEP allows the nation to compare academic progress from state to state.

Beverly Perdue will be a disaster because by aligning the NAEP with Common Core, she will pressure states with fact-based, academic curriculum standards/tests (e.g., Texas) to move away from their own Type #1 traditional standards and to adopt the Type #2 Common Core philosophy of education that is based upon subjectivity/feelings/emotions/opinions and the social justice agenda.

The truth is that Common Core is failing everywhere. Students’ academic achievement is going down while their indoctrination into the social justice agenda is going up.  Perdue’s almost certain attempts to change the “nation’s” test (NAEP) into Type #2/Common Core will further abandon teachers and schools who want to make sure their students have deep foundational knowledge and a fact-based education.

Beverly Perdue represents a dark day for America’s educational future.

“Betsy DeVos Appoints Former Democrat Governor to Head National Testing Board”

 By Dr. Susan Berry

 Excerpts from this article:

Education secretary Betsy DeVos announced Friday she has appointed former North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue to serve as chair of the National Assessment Governing Board.

Perdue, a Democrat and Common Core champion who served as North Carolina’s governor from 2009 to 2013, will lead the board that sets policy for the test known as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as the “Nation’s Report Card.”

The former governor, who was once a public school teacher, oversaw the adoption of the Common Core State Standards in her state.

“I am delighted to welcome former North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue as the chair of the National Assessment Governing Board,” DeVos said in a statement. “Her years of experience and time spent in the classroom as a public school teacher will be vital to the work of the board as it continues its efforts to strengthen and advance education opportunities for students across our country.”

In 2015, Perdue penned an op-ed at the Hechinger Report, in which she defended her decision to adopt Common Core for her state.

“In a global economy, it doesn’t matter where you live but it does matter what you know, and children everywhere ought to know what other students across America and the world are learning,” she wrote. “It makes no difference whether you call them Common Core or whether every state gives them a different name.”

Perdue continued that the standards would be helping young people succeed in a “fast-paced world in which skills and jobs change daily.”

The former governor said she was particularly impressed with Common Core math:

I recently visited a second-grade classroom in North Carolina and watched a fabulous teacher help kids understand the concept of the number “55.”  She used 12 addition and subtraction examples to show kids how many different math equations get you to 55.

She showed them how you can use five buckets of tens and five buckets of ones. Or you can use 11 buckets of fives – or six “fives,” two tens” and five “ones.”  She taught these second-graders to think logically and to explore how many ways you can get to an answer.

“The Common Core standards encourage problem-solving and critical thinking skills – skills that were often absent in the classrooms of the past,” Perdue wrote.

The former governor expressed concern about “fears that, by adopting Common Core, the federal government is over-reaching into our schools and threatening to nationalize curriculum.”

“The state has even empaneled a commission to review and rewrite the standards, even though North Carolina has already invested over $66 million in training teachers and school leaders, updating curriculum and transitioning to the Common Core,” she wrote, defending the Core further and asserting that “standards” and “curriculum” are separate concepts.

“[T]he Common Core State Standards were not created, approved or mandated by the federal government,” Perdue wrote in opposition to grassroots parent groups.” “The standards were created by the states. And, they don’t dictate curriculum, which remains entirely under the control of local school boards, principals and teachers.”

However, even as early as 2014, the CEO of the federally funded Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) – a Common Core assessment consortium- confirmed the standards and their aligned assessments were intended to drive curriculum.

“High quality assessments go hand-in-hand with high quality instruction based on high quality standards,” said Laura Slover. “You cannot have one without the other. The PARCC states see quality assessments as a part of instruction, not a break from instruction.”

Former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a Republican, also noted at the time:

The proponents of Common Core and PARCC continue to insist that tests and standards are not about curriculum, but that’s a ruse. Teachers already know that what is tested at the end of the year is what is taught in classrooms throughout the year. PARCC may not mandate one textbook or one pacing guide, but the CEO of the federally funded PARCC has admitted one thing: PARCC controls instruction and instruction is curriculum.

Since leaving office, Perdue has led Digital Learning Institute, an education nonprofit company that seeks to expand technology in the classroom. Perdue received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – the primary private source of funding for the development and implementation of Common Core – for her venture…

April 26, 2018

Teachers in my school district in Colorado (Jefferson) and also in Douglas County schools, are striking and lobbying at the state Capitol.  They claim Colorado ranks 46th in teacher pay – not true.  The NEA (National Education Association) lied.  Colorado teachers are 30th or 31st — closer to the middle of the pack.

Aren’t we paying them to teach in school — not strike to hold tax payers hostage?  Public school employees should never strike.   They should educate our children.  At least that is what we would ideally want.

Today Mandy Connell posted some comments on her blog about this subject.

0311_”Teachers’ Unions Support Student Walkouts As Protest To Change Gun Laws” By Dr. Susan berry — another effort from the Left (who have great control over most of our schools) to destabilize our country.

Donna Jack
March 14, 2018

I have witnessed since my first child went to school around 1975, that the schools have been used as Change Agents – to mold our country into a socialist paradise [which is an oxymoron (a combination of contradictory or incongruous words)]. One of the first things socialist governments do as they take over is to confiscate all guns.

This walk-out today is a continuation of the efforts of the Left to take away all guns.

The schools in my part of Colorado carried out this “walk-out” tactic during school hours, to use students to give the impression that the students were rising up — because they wanted the majority of 3 republicans on the school district school board to be recalled.  Once again, it was controlled and orchestrated by the school unions.  Unions pressured teachers, and teachers pressured students into marching.  Teachers called in”sick” and did not come to school.  This put a huge burden on the school district.  Students didn’t know why they were marching, except for sound bites told to them by their teachers.

You will find that this is the case today as well.  One friend told today, that her son’s teacher told his English class that they had to protest today.  The peer pressure alone is going to empty the schools — kids don’t like to be singled out – and they don’t want to be punished with low grades, or other methods of punishment used in the classrooms.

A quote from the end of the article below:

“Asking them to disrupt learning time, during the regular school day, to make a political statement is unconscionable,” she adds. “It shows what little regard national organizers actually have for the students whose individual schools they hope to destabilize or for the adults who are charged with running them.”

0257_Colorado Rep. Tim Leonard reports Jeffco School Superintendent Glass to impose new across-the-board left-wing curriculum–letters–links to new resource list to accompany new curriculum

Educator Resources – downloaded 2017-10-16 from website
Other blogs about this subject:Gramma Griizzly’s Corner

Colorado Representative Tim Leonard has done us a service, by alerting us to “abuse in the classroom” being expanded through “new” curriculum being imposed on all grades from K-12 — claiming to be in response to events at Charlottesville.  Our Jeffco Public Schools Superintendent justifies his unilateral imposition of the “new” curriculum, and says he is doing it because Jeffco Schools wants children to have an “authentic learning experience.”

In his September 28, 2017 letter, Superintendent Glass links to the Educator Resources for the new curriculum.   If you read through the resource guide, it is evident the children are being pushed to hate.  The curriculum and resources are from a destructive radical left-wing viewpoint.  EVERYTHING is hateful.  Teaching children to hate in the name of fighting hatred, is ridiculous.  Groups recommended as a resource, have an obvious left-wing bias that you can see on their websites – and the curriculum focuses on hate, negativity, and censorship.  Go to Blog 0261 on this website, for a video by Prager University, explaining who the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) is.

You can link to the Educator Resources document, which has live links to most of the groups being used for Superintendent Glass’ new curriculum content — and examples of their curriculum plans.  Note the international, not American, emphasis on some sites.

How do children learn to be kind and loving?

Children learn to be loving and kind by witnessing love and kindness — not by being shown  negative ugliness over and over every day.  Those behind this curriculum know exactly what they are doing!  They are conditioning our children through this curriculum (and all other curriculum that is like it), to hate and to act out their hatred — beginning in kindergarten.  [Note:  they have influence in preschool and day care as well.]

Representative Leonard’s letter:

Subject: Fwd: Message to Jeffco Public Schools community regarding Charlottesville, VA

To some interested Jeffco Public School folks,

The message below was sent to me on 16 August as a parent of children in Jeffco public schools from the new Superintendent Jason Glass.  It informed me that he has decided to introduce new curriculum into the Jeffco schools in all grades in order to use the events at Charlottesville for an “authentic learning experience” for the children.

Twelve days later on 28 Aug, I was sent another more detailed message as a Jefferson County Legislator explaining the significant amount of interpretive information the Superintendent’s “curriculum and instructional team has pulled together for educators” regarding the violence.  I have included this email information for you as well. Sept. 04, 2017

Two years, one month, and one week ago, on July 28, 2015, I posted my first blog on this website.

A listing of all the posts can be found in the Table of Contents — each entry in the Table of Contents has a link to the corresponding blog post.

The Home Page shows what is wrong with education —
and
the most critical thing to understand
in order to reverse the decline in education today – and to save our nation.

How do we fix the rapid decline in the education of too many people who do not graduate, and too many who do graduate from High Schools, Colleges and Universities?

It is not the condition of the buildings and other facilities — it is not the talent and good intentions and dedication of highly trained and competent teachers, administrators, counselors, teacher librarians, and all the support staff — it is not the freedom to choose the school a child attends (especially if all schools have Type #2 education) — it is not the amount of interest of the parents, or of the students — it is not computerizing all education and gathering more and more data on children, families, teachers, etc. — it is not simply emphasis on certain subjects like sports, music, art, science, technology, mathematics, language arts, reading, writing — it is not focus on becoming a global citizen — it is not in forcing all students to accept everything that students do and believe (unless they are politically incorrect).  Standardizing all attitudes, values, beliefs and behaviors is not the answer, either — and training children to want to change their sexual identity will not improve education standards.

The thing that really matters is THE TYPE OF EDUCATION BEING TAUGHT IN THE CURRICULUM — THE CONTENT.  Type #2 education is taking over our country — to the detriment of everyone.  We need a shift back to Type #1.

0202_Why Isn’t Communism as Hated as Nazism — presented by Dennis Prager (video)

May 4, 2017

Students in public  school are not taught the truth about Communism.

Quotes from this video:

“Until the left, and all the institutions influenced by the left, acknowledge how evil communism has been, we will continue to live in a morally confused world.

“In the meantime, all good people owe it to the victims of communism to learn what happened to them. Even worse than being murdered or enslaved is a world that doesn’t even know that you were.”

Dennis Prager presents this 5 minute 19 second (5:19) video.  (posted May 1, 2017).  You can link to the facts mentioned in the video – and at his site either view the transcript of the video — or you can download the transcript.

0201_Why Competency-based Education will Deepen America’s Education Crisis—by Jane Robbins

May 4, 2017

Donna Garner forwarded this article across the country today.  Following are a few selections from the article.  You can link the article at:  http://thefederalist.com/2017/05/04/competency-based-education-will-deepen-americas-education-crisis/

Samples from Jane Robbins’
May 4, 2017 Competency-Based Education (CBE) article

“Our Choices: Minimum Competency Or Indoctrination. Some CBE proponents straightforwardly argue that education must be changed to focus less on instilling knowledge and more on training students in “twenty-first-century skills” such as creativity, communication, and collaboration.
Unencumbered by facts, the government can then establish its own definitions of what success looks like in those areas.”

“This is where CBE becomes much more dangerous than its predecessor OBE. Modern technology allows the training to be accomplished much more effectively, and with data-capture mechanisms that can literally reshape our children’s lives.”

“Slicing and Dicing Kids’ Minds for Market Digital learning uses interactive software to track the student’s every keystroke, and perhaps his psysiological reactions, to create a personal mind-map illustrating not just what the child knows but also how his brain works.  This is perfect for CBE.  The Student can work his way through the different benchmarks at his own pace and have all his responses recorded and incorporated into an algorithm that shows where he is and where he’s likely to go.”

“According to the CEO of mind-mapper Knewton, the ed-tech companies will have so much data on each student that they can predict what he will do and tell him what he should do.  Few parents want the government (through the schools) to have this much information on their children, but of course, parents won’t be told how all this works.”

“CBE isn’t real education. It’s a mechanism for control. States must reject it.
Jane Robbins is an attorney and a senior fellow with the American Principles Project in Washington DC. She is a graduate of Clemson University and the Harvard Law School.”

The push for a Communist United States continues.
Ignore the laughter — this is real.

The United Nations was never a friend of the United States of America

Note:  See below the overwhelming Communist and Socialist membership of those who started the United Nations, and will see the continued Communist control
of the United Nations.

Note:  Alger Hiss is instrumental in the forming of the UN, and is its first Secretary General.  In previous and forthcoming blog pieces you will read of Alger Hiss in connection with Whittaker Chambers.  They were Soviet espionage agents (spies) who regularly transferred US secrets to Moscow.  They worked together, and they (and their wives) became close friends.

The following is taken from:
“The UN-American United Nations”
by Steve Farrell
http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/un/unamerican.htm#.WJpqlPJauSp

Truth 1: The UN is no friend to American ideals.

  1. The UN’s Founders were known Communists

“If it’s true that the personality, purpose, and accomplishments of an organization are highly affected by its leadership, then membership in the United Nations spelled trouble from the start. Of the 17 individuals identified by the US State Department as having helped shape US policy leading to the creation of the United Nations, all but one were later identified as secret members of the Communist Party USA (3). NOTE:  Democrats led the recounts – only to find there were more popular votes for Donald Trump.  But the real substantial voter fraud is in the democrat precincts where there are more votes than people registered — where dead people vote — where illegals vote (encouraged by President Obama to vote, and not fear getting caught, because there will be no prosecution if they vote illegally) — where voter machines reverse votes of republicans (I have witnessed this in past elections) — where republican ballots are pitched in the inner cities (a man told me of this when he voted several elections ago in an inner city – his ballot was put in the trash can before his very eyes) — where people are threatened with violence, if they vote “wrong”, etc.
