This past week my husband sent (to our Colorado grandchildren) this little 6-minute introductory video about the history of our U.S. Constitution and our Bill of Rights.  It is actually quite good.

Blatant censorship – and denial of it.

Donna Garner in Texas, is one of the people whose Facebook was shut down a few weeks ago.  Blog 0293, and Blog 0300, give Donna Garner’s account.  She also talks of Facebook shutting down her account in the email below.  Blog 0293, also talks of Dennis Prager’s battle with YouTube, which has banned many of his videos.  Prager is fighting this in court.  Many others in this country (who are not liberals) are under the same censorship attack.  Just look at almost all our schools!!

[I was one of those conservatives who got shut down by Facebook a few weeks ago. It took contacting our U. S. Representative who then contacted Facebook to get my page unblocked.  As people know who go to my public Facebook page (Donna Garner), I write, research, and publish articles on political, social, and education issues.  I am certainly not a “danger to my community” unless exercising my First Amendment rights under the U. S. Constitution is “dangerous.”

I am appreciative of Tex. Sen. Ted Cruz for asking Zuckerberg point blank today in the Congressional hearing to name the “liberal” groups that FB has ever shut down. Zuckerberg either could not name any or chose not to do so.  I believe it was the former.  – Donna Garner] Continue reading

“Transparency might guard the integrity of the tests given by the National Assessment of Educational Progress” — Sandra Stotsky

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?, a Latin phrase found in the work of the Roman poet Juvenal, is commonly used to refer to the problem of how one monitors the actions of persons in positions of power. We don’t know if we have a problem with the validity of the results of the “Nation’s Report Cards” or the extent of the problem (if there is one) because there is little transparency on the test development process.

Tests given by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) have been funded by Congress since their inception in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Called the nation’s “Report Cards,” all states have been required since 2001 as part of No Child Left Behind to give these tests at least every two years. Continue reading

This piece is part of a number of articles that shed light on the condition of education in our country.  This article addresses the university level, but it is important to know it is as bad or worse in Pre-K through 12th grades.  It is tragic what is going on.  Citizens do not realize — but need to learn, for our survival as a nation.

The name of the ACPA conference:  American College Personnel Association: College Student Educators International

 Some quotes from article below:

indoctrination isn’t confined to the classroom.
as an Association, ACPA actively challenges traditional definitions of sex and gender.
the ‘ACPA Convention Equity and Inclusion Information Booth.’ At this booth one could report any ‘bias incident .’
“College students need mentors who are more concerned with their developing competence and strength than with which pronouns they use.”
“Now, however, college students are surrounded by adults who live and breathe an extreme political ideology. No more judging people by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin. No more encouraging everyone to come together around their commonalities rather than focusing on every possible difference. No more celebrating the gifts of all people. It was disheartening to see and hear so much stereotyping from people who pride themselves on their inclusiveness.”

Donna Garner’s Excerpts from this article:

The extremely liberal environment on many college campuses is often attributed to the influence of aging hippie professors intent on indoctrination rather than education. But perhaps even more influential is the army of campus administrators who work with college students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

My recent experience at a national conference of such professionals revealed that indoctrination isn’t confined to the classroom. Continue reading

0323_March 28, 2018_Facebook is deeply enmeshed in education data mining and it’s probably affecting your children_ McGroarty_ J Robbins

April 10, 2018

Facebook is not the friend of its users.  Emmett McGroarty and Jane Robbins have another well-researched, documented, eye-opening article.

Quotes from article below:

many schools and districts routinely use Facebook to communicate with students and parents, but the social-media site may be embedded as a key component of personalized learning (actually depersonalized learning, as it marginalizes teachers in favor of training students by machine).

“Perhaps parents will now stop trusting and start demanding answers about the online platforms – not just Facebook — their children are forced to use at school. What data is being collected, who has access to it, and what are they doing with it?

“If the answers aren’t satisfactory, parents should demand that their children be taught without the technology that creates such massive threats to privacy. Perhaps a teacher and a book?

Revelations about the machinations of Facebook and Cambridge Analytica have illuminated the gaping holes in so-called “data security” at Facebook. The personal information of approximately 50 million people was given to (apparently not stolen by) Cambridge, a political profiling firm that used the data to create highly detailed voter profiles for the 2016 Trump campaign. The fact that the Obama campaign did essentially the same thing in 2012 hasn’t muted the outrage. Continue reading

The amounts are huge. A search in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation website for grant awards with the keyword “Common Core” returns 257 results accumulating more than $300 million.

Substituting the Common Core euphemism “college and career readiness” uncovers another $130 million for another 52 grantees.

Even more Common Core money has been sent under vague explanations such as “for general operating support” to organizations whose only relationship with the Gates Foundation is to promote Common Core. Continue reading

“Dr. Duke Pesta and Dr. Sandra Stotsky Dissect Why Common Core Has Failed Every Child”

Published on Jan 4, 2018

FreedomProject’s Academic Director, Dr. Duke Pesta, interviews Dr. Sandra Stotsky on the demonstrable failures of Common Core. According to a new study from the Pioneer Institute, the move to Common Core has decimated academic achievement in Massachusetts. Prior to adopting the Core, Massachusetts schools and educational standards were the finest in the nation, in large part because of the work of Dr. Stotsky. Now, Common Core has relegated Massachusetts to the same underachieving, politicized, centralized mediocrity plaguing the rest of the country’s public schools. Some really rough notes (with errors) of the video
taken by Donna Ja

[Common Core] It is everywhere in our schools, and has evolved beyond English and Math – to become a national way to look at every subject.

It is in the textbooks, and other materials, and in our college readiness tests.  Anything aligned to Common Core is basically Common Core. Continue reading

April 7, 2017

In response to my request, on April 5th, Donna Garner began sending me articles that prove Common Core has dumbed down our country.  The following is one of them.

Excerpt from below:
“He did not try to deny the data that clearly show Massachusetts losing its educational edge. Instead, he stood by the progressive credo valuing equality over excellence, even if that means bringing some privileged high achievers down several pegs so that all folks are on one level playing field.” — Robert Holland (Heartland Institute), April 14, 2018

 “Massachusetts Becomes Dumber
So the Rest of Us Can Be Smarter”

by Robert Holland

It is not likely that even an exhaustive review of commentary on education in 2017 could turn up quotes compelling enough to qualify as classic nuggets of wisdom. However, perhaps my favorite of the year in the non-wisdom category came from Massachusetts state Sen. Michael Barrett (D-Lexington).

In responding to mounting evidence of the Bay State’s decline from its undisputed number-one perch in K–12 student achievement since replacing its own standards with the Common Core nationalized blueprint, Barrett said the following: “It’s crazy to think that people in Massachusetts should learn more and better content than people in Mississippi. That’s no way to make sure that tide lifts all boats in America.” Continue reading

At my request, Donna Garner re- sent me this article which I had lost. Here is a portion from the article:

“…However, Ze’ev Wurman, former education policy advisor in the President George W. Bush education department, tells Breitbart News, “Such ‘pivoting’ may be acceptable in the private market, where companies regularly ‘pivot’ while abandoning previous strategies and the money they invested in them.”

“He continues:

“It is different when a private actor such as Gates uses his money to leverage public money – some $600 billion of it for his own relatively small investment of few tens of millions every year – to steer the public money to implement mediocre curricula and ill thought-out programs born of his feverish imagination and ignorance. Yet that is precisely the track record – and the explicit acknowledgement – of Mr. Gates.”

 Excerpts from this article:

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has announced his latest plan to invest $1.7 billion to improve K-12 public education over the next five years.

After having spent some $3.4 billion on public education in the United States – much of it directed toward the development and implementation of the highly controversial Common Core State Standards – Gates says that 60 percent of his new investment will go to public schools and about 15 percent to the development of charter schools. 0318_DID U. S. PERFORMANCE ON PISA DECLINE BECAUSE OF COMMON CORE? — BY DIANE RAVITCH — EDVIEWS.ORG — 3.6.18

Bill Gates funded Common Core possibly to the tune of $2 billion.  He has admitted that his Common Core implementation in schools across the country, not only failed to raise the academic accomplishments of students in the United States, but the results have worsened markedly.

Even sadder is the fact that, for the first time in our country’s history, a curriculum standard has been made federal —  Common Core was established as federal law, in December 2015, through the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  Read about Congress’ vote in Blog 0057 on this website.

You can also search for this article by typing “0057” in the search box at the top of this page (next to the “spy glass”).  Search for other ESSA articles on this website.

Stop the national intrusion into our local education

Isn’t it about time to stop pushing standardized education, and let states, local school districts, parents, and schools decide what they want their students to learn.  Our National Standards are based on Type #2 education.  See the  comparison of Type #1 and Type #2 education on the home page of this website.  Also see another online comparison at:  http://www.educationviews.org/comparison-types-education-type-1-traditional-vs-type-2-cscope-common-core/

Type #2 has been and is a total failure, for our children, and for our country.  Common Core is Type #2 education on steroids.

Below you can read parts of one article published last month about this sad state of education in our country.

“Once upon a time” the United States of America led the world academically – before the push for federally-controlled standards and curriculum. Continue reading
