Rally for Jack Phillips – November 8, 2017

November last year I attended a rally for Jack Phillips, whose case was going to come before the U.S. Supreme Court.  We all were expecting Jack’s case to be decided in December of last year.

Last November, the atmosphere was electric in the packed auditorium at Colorado Christian University (CCU).  We heard speaker after speaker talking in defense of our Constitutional rights to freedom of religion/conscience/thought/and speech.

A man from Alliance Defending Freedom spoke.  Alliance Defending Freedom is the group that has been providing necessary legal support for Jack (pro bono — without cost to Jack).  On their website they say, “… the ensuing lawsuit became the first time the government ever tried to force him to violate his conscience.”

Business owners from around the country spoke.  They, like Jack, are being sued for their religious beliefs and refusal to provide artistic creations that are against their religious beliefs.

Elected officials, community members and some friends also spoke and shared their support.

Many of us stayed after the rally, surrounding Jack, and praying for him.

Masterpiece Cakeshop

In 1993 Jack opened up Masterpiece Cakeshop.  It has been his way to do what he loves (design and make cakes, using his years of training and exceptional artistic gifts) — serve the community — and share with others his faith in Jesus.  In everything he does, his love and graciousness shine through.

Note:  Even with all the legal expenses paid,
40% of Jack’s business was cut for 6 years when
he stopped making his wedding cakes.

Jack needs financial help from people.  He asks people to order and purchase cakes and pastries from him, so he can get back to what he loves best.  There is a donate button on his website.  It was set up for him by friends.  Please consider contributing online, through the mail, or in person.

The U.S. Supreme Court may soon hear similar case(s) soon

Two cases similar to Jack’s are standing in line to be heard at the U.S. Supreme Court.  The court may or may not decide to hear them.
